Exhibition Overview:

The 30th Russian International Metal and Metallurgy Exhibition (Metal-Expo) in 2024 is the largest and most authoritative trade show for the metallurgical industry in Russia and throughout Eastern Europe. Organized by the Russian Society of Metals (METAL-EXPO) and supported by the Russian Steel Suppliers Association, the event has been successfully held for 29 consecutive editions.

At the 2023 exhibition, the display area reached 27,000 square meters, with 815 companies from 14 countries and regions worldwide showcasing products from the ferrous and nonferrous metals industries. Advanced equipment, technologies, and a full product lineup. This year’s exhibition attracted more than 30,000 end-users from industries such as ferrous and non-ferrous metals, construction, power and engineering technology, transportation and logistics, and mechanical manufacturing. The venue was bustling with visitors, and numerous domestic and international companies took part. In addition to the exhibition itself, a series of technical exchange events—including expert conferences, seminars, and roundtable discussions—were held concurrently, totaling 40 forums and specialized sessions. A large Chinese delegation comprising over 350 companies participated in the Metallurgy Forum. Most exhibitors, both established and emerging, highly praised the professional caliber of the visitor base. CEOs of major steel and metal trading firms personally attended meetings with partners and customers. Delegations ranged in size from 50 to 100 members, and more than 4,500 experts were on hand to engage with attendees, including 1,000 Chinese participants. The majority of exhibiting companies expressed satisfaction with the substantive content of the event, highlighted its effectiveness in driving business development, and reaffirmed their intention to participate in future editions.

According to data from Russia’s Ministry of Industry and Trade, steel output for the first nine months of 2023 reached 57.2 million tonnes, up 4.4% year on year. Finished-rolled products totaled 48.3 million tonnes, a 3.2% increase over the same period last year. Nonferrous metallurgy also performed strongly, with high-value-added nonferrous metal production surging by 33% in the first nine months of this year compared with the same period last year. This growth was driven by domestic consumption: demand for steel in the domestic economy rose markedly, increasing by more than 15% year on year—equivalent to an additional 4.5 million tonnes. In addition, consumption of tubular products grew by about 6%, or 500,000 tonnes. The Russian metallurgical industry currently faces several major challenges, including the development of new steel grades, expanding the output of high-quality rolled products for various sectors, and replacing imported equipment and components.

Chinese exhibitors have demonstrated enthusiastic participation year after year, with notable achievements in recent years from manufacturers of steelmaking equipment and spare parts, particularly those specializing in finished and semi-finished steel products such as pipes and wire rods. As close neighbors, China and Russia enjoy distinct geopolitical advantages. Seizing the opportune moment to introduce China’s metallurgical equipment, technologies, and products into the Russian market is of great significance for accelerating the development of Sino-Russian trade and economic and technological cooperation in the steel sector and for gaining a commanding position in the Russian steel market. This exhibition serves not only as a platform for the Russian industrial metals industry but also as a global stage for professionals in the same field. Over the past year, a wide range of changes have taken place—ranging from investment and reconstruction plans and technological modernization to logistics, supply and procurement, and personnel shifts. In light of these developments, customers from the aerospace, shipbuilding, automotive, oil and gas, transportation, and energy sectors are eager to meet suppliers at the exhibition. The event offers visitors a comprehensive opportunity to learn about promising advancements, innovative services, and cutting-edge collaboration models. Direct communication between producers and consumers, the sharing of industry expertise, the exchange of experience and insights into future trends, and discussions on upcoming initiatives will undoubtedly play a crucial role in driving the development of the metallurgical complex and its related industries.
